My name is JP. I make music, pictures, and videos in my garage in Austin, TX.
I started making music when I was 15 and then spent 10 years messing around with cassette 4-track and 8-track recorders. There were a ton of late nights sitting in my bedroom, pouring my brain and creative energy into cassettes. Most of the music I made back then was a mashup of perfectly stupid punk songs, Casiotone orchestra movie soundtracks, noisy tape experiments, and messy feedback.
After high school, I started getting into designing covers for the music projects I was creating. Some were hand-drawn, and others were made using paint programs on my IBM Aptiva.
During that time, I took music classes at Austin Community College. I also started working at a TV station doing live production, directing, sound mixing, commercial air-switching, and operating cameras.
In 2005, I started a band with my friends called Built By Snow. Over five years, we played hundreds of shows, released two albums, toured a little, and played some festivals. We also somehow managed to get songs licensed to companies, including Google and Cartoon Network.
2010 - I shifted my focus more heavily to design and video production while continuing to make music in my bedroom. I started making show posters for Austin music venues, bands, and promoters. Some were alright and others were pretty dang bad. Around that time, I also started making music videos and drew covers for the albums I was recording.
2011 - 2013 - I released a couple of albums and videos for a project called "Oh Look Out. " I didn’t promote the work I was doing, so most people probably never heard it. It’s on streaming platforms, though… so maybe people will find it someday.
2013 - After working at the TV station for nearly 15 years, I left to join a software company. My job was to create marketing and social media content, which involved video production, design, animation, photography, songwriting, and sound design.
2014 - 2017 - I focused mostly on design and video work, creating logos, posters, promotional materials, and billboards for companies including Float Fest, High Times Magazine, Austin Music Video Festival, and Pecan Street Festival.
2017 - I released an Oh Look Out EP called No Cares.
2020 - I released a full-length Oh Look Out album called Walkman Wars
2022 - I released a full-length Oh Look Out album called Messy Hair and Bombs of Heck.
Today, I’m the Creative Director for a software company during the day and create music, pictures, and videos at night.
